New Pretty Things!

I've been doing a bit of dyeing...

I dye fibre way more often than yarn but I do like a pretty sock yarn.  I've had some superwash BFL 4 ply in my dyeing stash for a while and now that I have new space it is time to make some colours!

These and some of their friends will be up in the Shop soon, but here is a little sneak peek!

Plying Weekend

We've moved into our new apartment so I dug through the boxes and extricated my electric spinner.  I've been spinning singles up on my Ashford Traditional wheel but I prefer to ply on the electric.  So this weekend I turned this:

Into this:

From left to right they are :
Alpaca/silk and mixed batt 2 ply
   Corriedale 2 ply
   Merino 3 ply
   Corriedale 3 ply

Now the bobbins are clear it's time to plot the next project....

Tuesday Top

On the weekend I went to the lovely wedding of our friends Dave and Laura.  It was geeky good!

The wedding was in Wangaratta so on the way back we went to one of our favourite craft breweries, Bridge Road Brewers, in Beechworth.  I had  one of their new single hop "Summer" IPAs. Never had that hop before, apparently it's Australian.  It was nice. Light, refreshing and fruity with not much bitterness.

Anyway, after that we went to the Old School House Gallery to check out the craft.  Unfortunately it looks like they are closing down but they have amazing felt work and they had massive hanks of yarn from North East Yarns.  I bought this beautifully soft Alpaca fibre from Kajiko Fibre Works.  I love it when they tell you the name of the animal it came from.  This is from "Dusty".  Love the colour!

Moving Day...Almost

Finally our new apartment has settled and we are allowed to move in...sort of...It's a smarmy apartment and one of the smarmy rules is that you are not allowed to "move in" on weekends.  So we have to wait until Monday to get all of our furniture moved in.

However, that did not stop us bringing the several carloads of stuff we have had in our share house over.  We purchased the massive couch that was in the apartment as part of the deal so we have somewhere to sleep tonight.  Awesome!

So, I spent most of the day driving back and forward moving stuff, but I did get a bit of time to work on my latest KAL.  This month I am knitting Ghislaine.  I have finished one (apart from thumb and hemming) and have started the next.  As I am knitting from the stash I have available I am actually using the same yarn as I did for the last KAL.  Seems to be working out well though!  The photo background is our new couch, yes, it is brown...

Tuesday Top

It has been quite hot in Melbourne recently.  Like record breaking hot.  I'd like to stop talking aout it but I just can't help myself.  I promise I won't complain when it becomes freezing as everyone keeps saying it will!

So, some top from New Zealand.  It is 50/50 merino silk dyed in a gradient by Fiber Artemis. I love these caramel tones and I think it's a colour that is going to be popular this year.

Tuesday Top

I love interesting sheep breed fibres.  Todays top is Masham, which is an English sheep breed.  I was going to get some when I was last in the UK but I ended getting some Teeswater instead.  At around 40micron with a 15cm-38cm staple I think this would be a really fun spin.

This lot is beautifully dyed by Rosy Retro.
