Tuesday Top

I've spun Yak a few times and I like the finished yarns a lot.  It has a very short staple length so it's a bit harder to spin than some other fibres but that is why a nice blend like today's Top pick is so good.  Supersoft Yak, offset by easy to spin Merino and some shine from the silk.  Perfect.  And I love these colours too!

Sexy Socks

I just finished these Tardis Socks for the boyfriend.  Didn't quite get them done in time for the 50th anniversay (that's the Doctor Who anniversary I'm talking about), but it apparently doesn't matter as the ABC is showing the episode again (again).  That's like three times in less than 24 hours!

Now whether you think these are sexy or not probably depends on how much of a fan of Doctor Who you are.  In a recent episode "The Doctor's Wife", it was revealed that the TARDIS is named "Sexy" so therefore, "Sexy Socks".

I love combinations of blue and brown in fibre. This Merino braid from Spin Culture is just the sort of colours I'm feeling like spinning at the moment.

Beer and Bomb 4

What is going on?  Number 4 post about craft beer and yarn bombing?  Who knew this would keep happening?

So, anyway, went out last night with our friends Nic and Yeshe. We  went to Temple Brewery for a couple of beers ( I had a Bicycle Beer).  As we were walking back to the car what do we spot but a yarn bombed shopping trolley.  It was quite nicely done, even the unit for your $1 coin deposit had a little drawstring cover.

Sorry for the dodgy mobile phone photos, didn't have an actual camera with me.

This is an awesome blend of Merino, Yak and Silk in the "Mountain Bluebird" colourway from Raven Ridge Fiber Arts.  The original fibre is the grey colour and I love the depth of shade that it has given to the blues.

Something Finished

I've been focused on knitting projects lately but I did finish these two spinning projects yesterday.

The first one is "Comes A-long A-love" on Merino/Silk, a new base that I'm adding to my Etsy store soon.  The second one is some SW Merino spun thick and thin, I dyed this one too but it was an experiment so the colourway has no name (poor colourway), let's just call it "Go Aussie, Go" for now.

These two won't be available in the shop (unless someone really wants them and lets me know quick) as I'll be sending them over to sunny Perth.  My lovely Mother-in-Law has a market stall selling her amazing sewn items and she's been selling my handspun yarn too.  You can find her at the Mundaring Market the 2nd Sunday of each month, and she's usually at the Midland Market for the rest of the month.  Say "Hi" from me if you see her!

Love Fruit Pastels, love this blend of Polwarth, Baby Camel and Silk in the colourway "Fruit Pastels" from Cat and Sparrow Fibres.  They are from Australia too which is nice.

I Finished Something...

I finished my Business Casual socks.  They came out great and I'm learning to make my socks fit better!

My feet are a pretty average size so you would think I would be pretty safe making the "average" sock - as specified in many patterns that is "women's medium".  For the most part this is pretty much true....but...I do have longish feet so I usually add some length to the toe...and I do have small ankles so I usually add some tight ribbing to the tops and a bit of length too.

These changes are pretty easy but the sizing I couldn't work out was the ankle?  heel? see, I don't even know what it's called. My socks don't fit around the diagonal of my foot, from the bend at the top of my foot to the back of my heel.  I thought about it a bit and I worked out that adding a few extra rows to the heel flap would add a bit more fabric at the point I needed and, indeed, these socks fit great!

And here's a picture:
