New Spin

I love my home made E-spinner.  My clever boyfriend made it for me from instructions on the internet before either of us knew how spinning worked.  Despite the fact that it looks like a bit of a mess, it spins amazingly well.  Well, that was until recently when we decided it was time for a rebuild.

So today these bits and pieces:

became this:

Yes, it is still held together with masking tape but that is only so we can do some testing and final adjustments.  It works really well and is quite a bit quieter than the old one too.

Very excited to do some more spinning.  First up is Koolaid dyed Merino that I made with some friends a few weeks ago.

Etsy Update

Had an update in my Etsy store today.  Added several new hand dyed Merino braids, some new colours and a few old faves.  Go and check them out, go on, what are you still doing here?

Tuesday Top

Taking up knitting has encouraged me to take up watching sport.  Sport is a great excuse to sit on the couch and enjoy several hours of knitting.  I particularly enjoy slow, boring sport that goes all day, or maybe even several days.  Test cricket, anyone?

Anyway, I've been watching quite a bit of the Winter Olympics so this week's top is inspired by the cold.  Maybe it will take my mind off the continuing hot weather here too.

"Ice Grapes" on superwash Merino by Quaere.  Love the colour combo.

Today I went to Norhtcote...

Yes, I did.  It's the first day in ages that hasn't been boiling hot and it is my day off and my motorbike needed an outing so I went for a ride out to Northcote to check out Woolarium, a newish yarn store on High St.

It's a lovely, bright little shop with lots of pretty imported yarns. Sharron, the owner was nice to chat with and they have a Sit and Knit meet which sounds like it would be fun too.

I bought some Shibui Sock with plans to make Dither socks.  I promise I'll cast it on next (cough).

And one of my favourite craft beer shops Harvest Wine and Liquor is pretty much next door so I got to pick up a Nogne/Holgate collaboration beer that I haven't tried before.

A good day...

I think I should take up buying fibre from felting shops.  Small amounts, but so many colours!

A New Project

I have been sans knitting project for a couple of weeks.  It seems that while I can wheel spin something and knit something at the same time my monogamous habits kick in when I spindle spin. So only a spindle project for me.  Here it is:

That is until this weekend when I started "Dragonfly Wings" from Boo Knits.  I am using the last yarn I made on my spindle.  I don't often actually knit with my own handspun but this one was a bit of a fave and I'm hoping this pattern will show it off nicely.

Here's the start:

Spinning and knitting = happy.
